Law says that one should not take law(mind) into his own hands((heart). So to punish errant mind under duress,instructor applies errant mind on same errant mind "to repel and eliminate error" and "to correct mind" for social(knowledge) useful gain. If we apply our mind in our mindset again,it works as more powerful and violent against our adversaries.
